prospectors in the mid 1980's. They where looking for fossils in a remote area
of Russia that is now a national park. A total of 60 kilograms was recovered.
Original research indicated that this was a new mesosiderite (it sure looks like one).
It has plenty of nickel to easily pass a nickel test and contains kamacite, troilite
and choenite (and even appears to have an etch pattern). It has an Feo/Mno ratio unlike
earth rocks (but similar to lunar values). Original oxygen isotope studies indicate that
this was not from earth. At this point Original is believed that this is an earth rock
that has gone through geologic processes we do not fully understand. Studies are continuing
on this unique material. This is beautiful stuff.
