MARE METEORITICS

Name: Libyan Desert Glass
Location: Libya/Egypt Border

Found in the sand sea on the Libya/Egypt border. This natural occurring glass of suspected meteoritic origin, is one of the strangest of all the glasses found in the field. It is highly translucent, displaying a light to medium gold to olive color. Although it is sometimes referred to as a tektite, scientists are still uncertain about its origin.
