Ingella Station History

Name: Ingella Station
Location: South Gregory, Queensland
Australia

Type: Olivine Bronzite Chondrite H5

In 1987 a weathered stone weighing about 10 kilograms was found in the Tenham area. It was recognized as a separate new find within this strewnfield. However, this meteorite is distinct from Tenham (L6) and Hammond Downs (H4). Ingella Station was found in a very weathered state, with traces of old fusion crust remaining, scientist have concluded that this meteorite has a very old "Earth Age", and had impacted many years earlier than Tenham. Because of the extensive weathering the matrix is beginning to break apart along the once metal-rich, but now rusty, veins. Only the presence of nickel identified this as a meteorite. A large mass of approximately 10 kg, and a second of 7 kg, were found searching the nearby fields. More were recovered at later dates.

Never published in the Meteoritical Society Bulletins but some information is available.
